Have you ever poured your heart and soul into a new business offer, launch, or course, only to be met with crickets? It's frustrating, discouraging, and downright demoralizing. But have you ever stopped to consider that the reason your efforts are falling flat might not be because of the quality of your work, but because of who you are being when you present it?

The truth is, if you're more focused on getting people to like you than earning their respect and showcasing your expertise, you're setting yourself up for failure. And if that idea makes you uncomfortable, you're probably a people pleaser. It's time to face the facts: in business, respect garners more attention and a more invested community than being liked ever will.

 How People-Pleasing Holds You Back

If you're a people pleaser in business, you're likely holding yourself back in ways you don't even realize. You may be putting out content that's watered down, packing your offers full of more and more in the misguided belief that it adds value, and pricing your offers low to make them more accessible. Feedback from customers and clients might send you into a panic, and you may avoid saying what you really want for fear of disagreeing with others.

All of these behaviors stem from a desire to be liked rather than respected, and they can be incredibly damaging to your business and your ability to do business over time. It's time to start prioritizing respect over likability, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone and taking some risks.

How to Earn Respect in Business

In business, it's not always easy to say what needs to be said. You might be afraid of offending someone or of rocking the boat, but the truth is that , if you want to earn peoples' respect, sometimes, you just have to say the uncomfortable shit.

Whether it's giving feedback to a colleague or addressing a problem with a client, speaking your truth can be scary but it's also incredibly empowering. Similarly, making uncomfortable business moves - such as raising your prices or pivoting your business in a new direction or just speaking your truth - can be nerve-wracking, but it's often necessary to achieve the success you're striving for.

At the end of the day, the most important thing is to honor your freaking truth.

This means staying true to your values, your vision, and your purpose, even when it's not the easy thing to do. It means being authentic and transparent in your offers and content and refusing to compromise your integrity for the sake of pleasing others.

You may lose a few people along the way, but in the process, you'll gain something far more valuable: respect for yourself. When you honor your truth and make the difficult decisions that come with it, you'll build a business that's not just successful, but also fulfilling and meaningful.
